8. French and Indian Wars Washington during the French and Indian Wars
The French and Indian War, also known as the Seven Years War, began in the Spring on In 1760, the battered French Army surrendered at Montreal. The entire nation of Canada was relinquished to the British. As part of the 1763 Treaty of Paris, The French lost not only Canada but also all lands in America east of the Mississippi River.

The British gained control over the area west of the 13 British Colonies to the Mississippi River. 
The French agreed to relinquish any claims to the land and no longer support them.
The north and east of the Mississippi River was now under British rule.

King George III kept 10,000 soldiers in the colonies
Required the colonists to house British soldiers and give them supplies.

Parliament had supreme authority to rule (make laws) over colonies

Suspended NY’s assembly until N. Yorkers gave troops housing
Put import taxes on goods such as glass, paper, paint, lead, and tea
Could use writs of assistance, or search warrants, to search for smuggled goods

Group of colonists and soldiers began insulting each other
Fight broke out, soldiers fired on colonists, 5 were killed
Sons of Liberty called this the BM
Used as a tool for anti-British propaganda
