American Indian Movement
American Indians started to grow restless in the 1960s. in 1953, the federal government transferred its responsibility over American Indians still living on reservations to the state governments. Because of this some of the the states without sufficient funding

A. I. M. -1963 -The federal government reversed its policy and began encouraging tribal life on the reservations. -The civil rights act of 1954 prohibited discrimination against Native Americans. - Even after the civil rights act they still felt discriminated against, they felt like it didn't change a thing, so they started their own movement.

Red Power - They began protesting against textbooks, television shows, and movies that showed anti-American Indian bias. - The movement began to slowly take away discrimination. -¨Red Power¨ was to mobilize public opinion in their favor. - Started in Minneapolis, minnesota.
