FEDERAL – DELEGATED POWERS Express Implied Inherent STATE – RESERVED POWERS Powers not given to the Federal govt nor denied to the States

4 The Exclusive and Concurrent Powers
Exclusive Powers Powers that can be exercised by the National Government alone Examples: coin money, to make treaties with foreign states, and to lay duties (taxes) on imports. Concurrent Powers Powers that both the National Government and the States possess and exercise Examples: Levy and collect taxes, to define crimes and set punishments for them, and to claim private property for public use.
