Confucianism Based on the teachings of Confucius
(Confucius criticized the misuse of a king/emperor’s authority) Basic Beliefs and Practices People should follow the ways of their Ancestors to restore peace and harmony Duty is the central idea Place community and family needs above one’s own needs Duty of an Individual: Parents: to love their children Children: to respect their elders Husbands: Support their wife Wives: Obey their husband Ruler: rule justly and set examples of living in peace and harmony.

Began with the ideas of founder Laozi (Believed to live at the same time as Confucius) Basic Beliefs Live a good life Free themselves from worldly desires and live simply Turn to nature Dao- Spiritual Guide

Differences of Daoism and Confucianism
Turn away from worldly desires and live in harmony with nature Many Chinese follow both Philosophies since they supported one another. Work hard to make the world a better place

Stressed the importance of a system of laws Hanfeizi founded and introduced the idea’s in the 200’s Basic Beliefs Human are naturally evil Necessary to have harsh punishments to force people to fulfill their duty Rulers must enforce every law small and large crimes received harsh punishments.
