What reforms begin to help people during the Industrial Revolution?

Abolition of Slavery Two groups during Ind Rev helped end slavery 1) Reformers thought slavery was morally wrong 2) Business owners thought cheap labor helps them make money and improves economy Abolition movement led by William Wilberforce, member of British Parliament, British slavery ends in 1833 Labor Unions Due to poor working conditions, voluntary associations known as labor unions form to improve working conditions Skilled workers led the way in forming unions since it was hard for management to replace these workers Governments tried to outlaw unions, which caused more people to strike and join unions

Women’s Rights Although factories offered women independence, women only earned 1/3 of what men earned Many single mothers didn’t earn enough $ to help their family Jane Addams ran settlement housing programs for the poor & women By 1848 a large women’s rights movement gains momentum
