Locard’s Principle of Exchange
September 17, 2018 Due: September 18, 2018
2
In your notebook, complete the following:
You are sitting at your desk. Make a list of all the possible answer to the questions below. What are you in contact with? What possibly transfer of material could be taken or is taking place? How could you have prevented any transfer if you had thought about it first? What transfer material would be traced to you directly?

Observing Locard’s Exchange Principle
Read the handout. On a sheet of notebook paper to be handed in, answer questions before proceeding to the lab. What weekend day did you wear the shirt you brought in? Record the movements that you did during the weekend day. Describe the type of location and the people, animals, and activities your encounter. Follow the Lab procedures. Materials: forceps, magnifying lens On the piece of paper to be handed in, thoughtfully answer the analysis questions.

Possible Associated Activity Hypothesis for unknown (?) samples
Analysis Questions Create and complete a chart similar to the one below that relate each sample you found on your shirt to one of your activities while wearing the shirt. If there are some samples that don’t seem to relate to any of your activities, list them with a ? in the associated activity column. For these samples, make a hypothesis about how they could have gotten onto your shirt (even though they do not seem to relate to your activities). Describe three materials that can be transferred during a crime and explain how they can link a suspect to the crime scene. Is it difficult to not leave a trace? Explain. Give some hypothetical examples when destroying evidence might leave more that could identify you. What is Locard’s Exchange Principle? Evidence Collected Possible Associated Activity Hypothesis for unknown (?) samples
