4. Show Day What to Expect: Arrive between 3:15-3:30 p.m. on August 30th
USDA will take a small blood sample for each bird NPIP tests for 5 things: avian influenza (AI), pullorum, typhoid, salmonella, and mycoplasma)
Put your Final Touches on birds
Caged birds will be lined up
Show will starts at 4:15 p.m.
Judge will handle all birds
You will be asked questions regarding your project
Ribbons will be awarded

5. Show Day What to bring… Your 3 BEST pullets
Holding Cage(preferably with good visibility of birds)
Grooming supplies
Completed Record Book
Small water dish for your hens

7. Selecting Your Pullets…
A few tips in selecting your birds:
Select 2 weeks in advance
Pick 3 birds close to the same size
Active and Alert
Well feathered
Free of physical defects
Feminine

8. Preparing your Pullets…
You will need to bathe your chicken before the show. Let’s watch the video below to see exactly how this is done!

9. Grooming Supplies… 3 washtubs Lukewarm water Liquid dish detergent
Borax(optional)
Apple cider vinegar
Sponge
Petroleum Jelly (Vaseline)
Toothbrush
Towels
Clean Cage

10. WASH YOUR HANDS WHEN FINISHED
Remember…
DO NOT USE COLD WATER
DO NOT LET THE CHICKENS HEAD GO UNDER WATER
BE CAREFUL WHEN WASHING THE FEATHERS
PAT THE CHICKEN DRY
BATHE 2-3 DAYS BEFORE THE SHOW
HAVE A WARM PLACE FOR THEM TO DRY
BE CAREFUL WHEN USING A BLOW DRYER
WASH YOUR HANDS WHEN FINISHED

11. Preparing Yourself… What to wear: What to Know:
Wrinkle free collared shirt (preferably tucked in)
Jeans without rips, tears, or stains
Closed toed shoes
What to Know:
General knowledge about your birds
Type of feed
Facts about your project

12. After the Show…
Following the 4-H poultry show there will be an auction for those of you whom would like to sell your chickens. You DO NOT have to sell your chickens, however there will be people there to buy them. You can sell ALL of your hens, just your 3 show hens, or none. The number is up to you and your family Please be sure to thank your buyer and follow up with a thank you note.

13. A few reminders… Show: August 30th, 2016 at 4:15 p.m.
Arrival Time: 3:15 - 3:30 p.m.

Premier Record book winner will be announced approximately 2 weeks after the show.
