What is Plot? Mrs. Issa & Ms. Liebler

Before: Today we are going over plot. At your table, retell one of your favorite stories to one of your group members. (3 mins)

Plot Is the sequence of events and actions that happen in a story. Every plot is made up of a series of incidents that are related to one another.

Exposition The exposition is at the beginning of a story. During the exposition, the reader is introduced to the: characters setting conflict

Rising Action The rising action is the series of conflicts and events that lead to the climax of the story.

Climax The climax is the turning point. It is the most intense moment mentally or physically. The main character will change in some way.

Falling Action The falling action is all of the action that follows the climax. The conflict(s) and climax are taken care of.

Resolution The resolution is the tying up of all loose ends. All of the conflicts are RESOLVED.

You should also know Protagonist- normally the main characters in a literary piece. Also the character that undergoes the most change mentally or physically. The protagonist is the character that grows. Antagonist – normally the character whom opposes the protagonist. (Bad Guy)

After: You should know the story of Cinderella. Take the plot map and map out the story of Cinderella. I have given you 10 events to place on the plot map.
