Part 3: Priorities for future success The following slides were developed by Scots and ASC combined staff forums in January and February 2018

Our priorities for future success – new school as a whole
What do we need to do as key priorities for action: (a) START Branding / culture / vision / mission / identity Single school - not two separate schools Communication – uniform, effective, inclusive, respectful dialogue Bring the parenting community together - Stop Them and Us Having answers to give people, and ourselves New traditions to inspire the community Collaborating between schools - programming etc. Inclusiveness - both school communities Strongly promoting the new school Campus structure / clarity Transparency in decision making Students to have positive experience with staff both schools Positive key messages being delivered effectively to the School and wider community by/in-belief by the Executive and the Staff, that the College will be tremendously successful. Embrace history and preserve important traditions and development of new traditions. Invest in key areas: class rooms, playground, class resources, personal development, technology, buildings and maintenance, running two campuses. Appropriately resourced - teachers; technology Consultation over resources Improving boarding facilities Removing demountable buildings Determine effective use of school property Build inclusive culture of both schools traditions and history Standardise technology: LMS; SM Start looking at new Technology - NBN Funding - Music - start Tiered / Ensemble Maths - Personal Development for Ext 2 Museum – Archives, Historical walk Creative space - departmental Build positive awareness Show staff unity Defined roles of staff (structure) Engagement and trust with staff Ensure staff have an opportunity to network and socialise, e.g. morning tea. As staff we should be excited

What do we need to do as key priorities for action: (b) STOP Negativity (within school and wider community) Boys’ Club Us and them - division between schools Rivalry Non collaborative processes Economic hardship Negative talk by staff, parents, students Speculating Rumours and uncertainty at both sites Fear Stop constantly introducing technology, without a need / changing needlessly Stop competing Using ‘small school’ as an excuse for mediocracy Technology for the sake of technology - only use what is useful Negativity Rumours Pining for the past

What do we need to do as key priorities for action: (c) CONTINUE Collegial functions and relationships Strong academic focus and results; and strive for excellence Strengths of each school e.g. cadets, piping bands, equestrian Transition to Senior School Heritage of both schools aiming for excellence - respect for each school’s traditions and values - identify then integrate them Caring staff / students / parents Relationships Involvement in Community / Bathurst Classroom practice where students’ wellbeing are at the centre of our actions Meaningful traditions that shape a positive school culture and identify Time for worship Professional development Financial viability Staff involvement in the integration Clear communication of Presbyterian Church communications Appreciate and value staff diversity Collegiality Positive dialogue Pursuing excellence Pastoral care Meetings and collaboration Delivering a high quality education Collegiality - social gatherings Use events like highland Gathering, Art Shows, to project to the community e.g. All Saints band at Highland gathering and vice versa. Some activities can be done jointly e.g. combined Scots/ASC groups on legacy badge sales, Salvation Army appeal - beginning this year. Joint schools mission of some sort - Christian Overseas aid; T-tree? School socials - one on each campus Significant events - BBQs, Ball Joint academic activities e.g. history performances, author visits, Joint sports tour. Student learning Building Community Old boys / Old Girl’s Associations Maintaining student levels - growth Good reputations

Our priorities for future success – our Department
What do we need to do as key priorities for action: (a) START (b) STOP Having a Head of each department!! Resourcing (budgets / Realistic) Investment in new technology Consultation with HODS Open dialogue - sharing ideas and resources Faculty breakfast (brekkie) or dinner to ‘bond’ Investing in each other and the demands of the new curriculum / school Know budget in advance Prioritise budget for academic success Develop department resources Start maintaining excellence Promoting combined school All classes, boarding and offices should have Air conditioning Carpets - everywhere Multi departmental heads!! Stop large composite departments No more combined electives No doubles for seniors Perceived rivalry and fear Worrying Stop asking teachers to teach outside subject areas without training or PD Stop slashing budgets (c) CONTINUE Passionate staff for individual subjects Supportive, collegial conversations Planning for 2019 scope and sequence and programming Throwing out rubbish and organising departmental resources
