2 Women’s Roles A woman’s place was believed to be in the home
They were in charge of raising children, making clothing and preparing meals They had very little say in what they could and couldn’t do There were also separate services at the church for women

5 Anne Hutchinson Anne Hutchinson moved from England to Massachusetts with her husband Anne would have meetings in her home that challenged what the Puritan minister preached She had such large gatherings that she started having two meetings a week rather than just one Based on what you know about Colonial women’s roles, how do you think she was treated?

6 The Trial of Anne Hutchinson
In 1637 Anne was seen as a threat and accused of heresy At her trial the Governor Winthrop himself interrogated her She defiantly responded to the questions with those of her own and challenged Winthrop. The last straw was when she said that her revelations came from God himself

7 The result Anne was excommunicated and banished from her town
She moved around for a while before settling in Long Island In 1643 she was killed by Native Americans that were not happy with the settlers on their land
