2 Here’s what we are growing
Hi Everyone! Thanks so much for all your work in helping us find out about the judge’s categories. It has helped us decide what to grow. We have planted all our seeds now which is really exciting. Here’s what we are growing Our vegetable flowers are broccoli and cauliflower We need to grow the heaviest, tastiest flowers we possibly can! Sunflowers We need to grow the tallest and biggest flower we can!

3 Our salad fruits will be tomatoes and cucumbers
We hope to grow the tastiest crop we can with rich beautiful colours Our leafy greens will be cabbage and kale We will try to grow the biggest, greenest cabbages and the longest, healthiest, tastiest kale.

4 We have planted peas and runner beans
We are hoping to grow the longest and tastiest pods.

5 We have planted celery as our stem vegetable and we are aiming to grow the healthiest, tastiest stems imaginable! We have chosen carrots and parsnips as our tap root vegetables and we need to aim for the longest root as well as great flavour.

6 We have planted most of our seeds straight into the ground as recommended on the seed packets but some of the group want to begin the tomato plants inside where it is warmer. Samuel and Ellie think that putting the seed trays on the window sills of their houses will give them a great start because it is warmer inside. But Lin and Max are worried that the light levels on the window sills will be much worse than outside and this may affect the health of the plants. Please could you do some research to find out the difference in light levels between a window sill and outside. If you have time perhaps you could compare temperature as well! This information, together with the results of your experiment will really help us!

7 We are also keen to find out how water is transported to where it is needed in plants. We were wondering if you might be able to check this out for us too. Thank you!
