Forest plot comparing variance (adjusted r2, 95% CI) for different measures of maternal obesity in early pregnancy and their association with insulin resistance. Obesity measures included pre-pregnancy BMI, BMI at 11 to 14weeks’ gestation, as well as subcutaneous, visceral and total adipose tissue depth at 11 to 14weeks’ gestation. Insulin resistance was determined at 16 to 22weeks’ gestation using the HOMA-IR or the ISI after a two-hour 75-gram oral glucose tolerance test. Measures of BMI were adjusted for maternal age, parity, and ethnicity. Measures of adipose tissue depth were adjusted for maternal age, parity, ethnicity, and pre-pregnancy BMI.
