Fig. 1 Life-table curves of the primary and secondary patency of 114 above-knee ePTFE femoropopliteal bypass grafts. The 2-year primary patency rate of 69% had decreased to 42% by 5 years. The benefits of simple revisionary procedures in the first 2 to 3 years after graft implantation was observed in improved secondary patency, but this advantage appeared to disappear by 5 years after implantation. Fig. 2 Life-table curves of primary patency for femoropopliteal above-knee ePTFE grafts in patients with claudication (n = 44) and critical ischemia (n = 57). The claudication group had a superior 5-year primary patency of 62% in contrast to the lower primary patency of the limb salvage group (37%) (p < 0.01). Fig. 3 Life-table curves of primary patency for above-knee ePTFE grafts with good angiographic runoff (2 to 3 vessels, n = 59) and poor angiographic runoff (0 to 1 vessels, n = 23). The limbs with good runoff show a superior primary patency rate above that of the poor runoff group (p < 0.005). Fig. 4 Comparison of patency rats for secondary surgical procedures for above-knee ePTFE grafts. These curves represent the cumulative patency for those grafts with occluded and underwent secondary procedures. Both our series and that of Montefiore group had patency rates of less than 40% by 36 months.
