General Circulation Model
NCAR Community Atmosphere Model and Community Land Model. ~3.75° x 3.75° horizontal resolution, 26 atmospheric layers. cpl lnd ice atm ocn Simulates energy, heat and moisture transfer within and between the atmosphere and land.

Mean annual surface temperature
19
Model-data temperature discrepancies
Mean discrepancy: -1.7°C
20
Model-data precipitation discrepancies
Mean discrepancy: -172 mm/year

In summary New Miocene palaeogeography.
Preliminary results of a Miocene climate simulation: too cool and arid compared to proxy data. Need to run coupled climate simulations using new palaeogeography in order to better resolve and understand proxy-model discrepancies.
