4. WSAC and student transition
RCW 28B :
The council shall adopt statewide transfer and articulation policies that ensure efficient transfer of credits and courses across public two and four-year institutions of higher education.

Group was considering changing it to a broader health sciences degree to prep for several 4 year majors, but feedback from 4 years was that this degree, even with slight changes, would not meet all majors’ requirements
Sticking with Pre-Nursing DTA/MRP so that we continue to have 2 tracks for transfer students
Still issues w/numbers
Out of the /14 Pre-Nursing DTA/MRP grads, 81 (18%) enrolled at a public baccalaureate institution (not including CTC BAS or BSN degrees) at some point after earning their degree and before Summer % enrolled in a BSN program and 22% enrolled in a health sciences or psych degree. (note this data is from MRTE, which does not have the latest #s of graduates – Joyce’s #s say 465 grads)
How can we ensure that students who don’t get into nursing programs continue their education in something else?
Primary changes/discussions
10 credits QSR (stats + college alg, pre-calc, or logic)
Keeping 5 credits in public speaking (it’s under Humanities section since it is a Speech/Comm Studies course)
Updated courses that have changed names since 2004
Under soc sci, added 5 credits of soc sci outside of psych that has a diversity focus

Feedback from all institutions, including any advising notes, and will go through the ‘process’ (which was just updated)

Proportion of students with intent to transfer who actually transfer.
Proportion of students who earn bachelor’s degree in same area as transfer degree.
Proportion of bachelor’s degree earners who are direct entry vs. transfer.

Student goes through school’s appeal process
If not resolved, contacts WSAC
WSAC contacts school to resolve
If necessary, student submits formal complaint
Students who encounter transfer difficulties shall first seek resolution through the receiving institution’s transfer officer. If not resolved at this level, the student may appeal in writing to the transfer officer of the sending institution. The transfer officers shall confer and attempt to resolve the problem. In the event the transfer officers cannot resolve the issue within two weeks, the matter will be referred to the two chief academic/instructional officers for resolution. Within two weeks, after the academic officers have conferred, a decision will be rendered by the chief academic officer of the receiving institution.
