2 What is Carnegie Community Engagement Classification?
Voluntary or “elective” Classification launched in 2006 The Foundation defines community engagement as "the collaboration between institutions of higher education and their larger communities (local, regional/state, national, global) for the mutually beneficial exchange of knowledge and resources in a context of partnership and reciprocity.” 361 campuses are currently classified (24 in NY, 9 SUNY)

3 SUNY Oswego’s classification
A team of 4 completed the application in 2010 Took about one year to complete application – considerable amount of time reaching out to stakeholders on campus We were one of 115 institutions to receive the classification in 2010 To be reclassified in 2020, we will need to reapply through a reclassification process

4 Re-classification in 2020 Need to decide if we want to reapply in 2020 (decide by summer 2018) Differences in the re-classification Looking for evidence versus narratives Looking for improvement since 2010 Main areas of application Institutional-level leadership Curricular Engagement (how engagement is integrated into curriculum) Outreach and Partnership
