This texture is the simplest, consisting of
Monophonic This texture is the simplest, consisting of melody without accompanying harmony. This may be realised as just one note at a time, or with the same note duplicated at the octave.

Homophonic A texture in which two or more parts move together in harmony, the relationship between them creating chords. (a melody accompanied by chords.)

Polyphonic This is a texture consisting of two or more independent melodic or rhythmic voices.

Pedal Note A note sustained by one part, usually the bass, while other parts progress without reference to it.

Canon (not Cannon) A composition or passage in which a melody is imitated by one or more voices at fixed intervals of pitch and time.
