Naseem Farha Science Fair – Baseball

2 What is Baseball? Baseball is a bat and ball sport played between two teams of nine players. The point is to score runs by hitting a thrown ball with a bat and touching a series of four bases arranged at the corners of a 90-foot diamond. The team who makes the most home-runs wins through the 9 innings or more if there is a tie game.

3 Objective The goal of this project is to figure out how the size of a baseball stadium affect batting statistics.

4 Hypothesis If the baseball team plays a home game, then the chances are they will win more games than if they played an away game.

5 Procedure Add the average for every team's home and road batting statistics . Over the time that they've been playing in a particular park. Since the average road park is nearly the same as the league's average park, the difference between home and road performance is the home park's effect on offense.

6 My Research On Parks When looking at ballparks, there are three "types," a hitter's park, a pitcher's park and a neutral park.

7 Results Detroit Tigers: Statistics 2012 GP W L
Total Home Away Day Night

8 Stats New York Yankees: Statistics 2012
Total Home Away Day

9 Conclusion My hypothesis was correct. The batting averages were higher when the team performed home games than away games.

10 Research Looking at Safeco Field, left field seems to favor hitters, specially with that big open spot right above the bleachers. Right field seems to favor pitchers, with a slightly longer dimension, more seats and so forth.
