TURNIPS There is evidence that the turnip was domesticated before the 15th century BC. Turnips were a well-established crop in the Roman Empire.

TURNIPS In Ireland and Scotland, turnips were traditionally carved instead of pumpkins at Halloween. According to legend, a man named Stingy Jack roams the land on Halloween night with a burning coal inside a carved-out turnip to light his way. The Irish and Scots carve faces into turnips to frighten away Stingy Jack, who later became known as “Jack of the Lantern”
