1 Silicatosis. Silicatosis. Similar to sarcoidosis in distribution, the nodules of silicate disease can be distinguished by the common occurrence of dark pigment dust and the characteristic fibroblastic proliferation that occurs in response to silicate dust. When these morphological features are present, refractile silicate particles that rotate plane-polarised light are always present. This was a patient with mixed dust pneumoconiosis.
