What is Globalization? Globalization is the trend towards a more integrated world In other words, globalization is when goods, services, culture, etc. are able to be shared around the world freely So, in the context of technology, globalization is when technology is shared throughout the world

The Internet The internet’s origins are from the 1950’s, when the U.S. government thought of a computer network that would survive a nuclear attack This led to a network called ARPANET created in 1969, which only had 4 users By the late 1980’s, the U.S. government had created another network named NSFnet, which catered to thousands of academics, military researchers, and other government employees In 1989, a Swiss physicist developed the internet that we use today Over 3 billion users as of 2015 Most significant new technology in the last 20 years

Inequality A con of globalization of technology is inequality
Critics argue that the gap between the rich and the poor is widening because of globalization of technology The rich have more luxuries than ever, while the poor can barely scrape by Also, the poor have less jobs since new technologies are taking their jobs Additionally, as of 2006, 70% of the world’s population still didn’t have basic communication technologies
6
Other Cons of Globalization of Technology
Some believe that we are too reliant on our technology, and have become more impatient because of them People also can spend all their time online, instead of interacting with real people Due to the internet, there also has been a loss of privacy, along with a higher risk of scams Jobs are also being taken from people as new machinery can do their jobs better New technologies can also hurt the environment depending on what they are

People around the world should be able to use new technology if they can afford it In order to reach our full potential, we must keep progressing Using the internet, people can now communicate in seconds with anyone Throughout history, new technology has always been critiqued and has always proven to be beneficial to mankind’s progress For example, writing, radio, machinery during the industrial revolution, etc, were all critiqued when they first were invented
9
Conclusion In conclusion, we believe that the globalization of technology can cause real issues concerning jobs, poverty, and social changes that need to be addressed However, the new technological advancements and their benefits outweigh the drawbacks, so we support the globalization of technology
