2 CAS STAGES We spoke about engaging in CAS experiences with awareness & intention Being more aware and more intentional with your activities should create experiences that are more valuable to you CAS stages can help you be more aware and more intentional

3 These CAS stages represent a process & sequence that can assist students in many aspects of their life. They follow a process whereby they investigate an interest that often raises questions & curiosity, prepare by learning more, take some form of action, reflect on what they have done along the way, and demonstrate their understanding and the process.

4 What is reflection? Reflexio – the act of bending back; or looking backwards What does reflection mean to you? Why would you reflect? What would you gain from it? When would you reflect?

5 But what IIIIIIISSSSS REFLECTION?
Reflection is…… Honest Varied Done in many different ways Sometimes boring Difficult Sometimes creative Building self-awareness Necessary for learning Surprising Sometimes really fun Helpful for planning Done alone or with others About thoughts, feelings, ideas Reflection is not….. Only led by teachers Forced Right or wrong Good or bad To be graded Difficult Copying what someone else said Predictable To be judged by others Done to plase someone else A waste of time Only written Only discussion

6 QUESTIONS TO ASK DURING REFLECTION. . .
What happened? Students retell memorable moments, identify what was important or influential, what went well or was difficult, obstacles and successes How do i feel? Students articulate emotional responses to their experiences Ideas? Notation of any generative possibilities Questions? What can be discovered about people, processes or issues? Activity Think of a CAS experience you recently engaged in and ask yourself these questions. What are the possible ways you could reflect?
