Medford Aquatic Center Plan for Energy Efficiency and Solar resources
2
Energy Efficiency: Natural Gas Water Heating Recommendation: Design for: Condensing boilers that provide efficiencies over 90% compared to 80% or less for industry standard. Condensing boilers qualify for utility incentives!
3
Energy Efficiency – Electrical Recommendation: Design for: Premium efficiency motors, pumps and drives, HVAC and lighting to save power. Apply to Energy Trust for incentives.
4
Solar Resources: Plumb for Solar Ready Recommendation: Plumb for Solar: Preheat water with solar to reduce natural gas use. Only to be considered on year-a-round facilities. May not be cost effective at this time.
5
Water Heating - Solar Recommendation: Solar water heating can offset natural gas but should only be considered on year-a-round facilities. Natural gas has no net metering that banks credit by spinning the meter backward, so solar water heating has to offset actual use!
6
Solar Electric – Wire Solar Ready Recommendation: Wire for Solar: Year around savings. Offsets peak demand. Net metering provides savings even when the aquatic center is not used. Currently may not be cost effective. Prices are dropping. Incentives: Energy Trust: $.75-1.25/watt. Max $150,000
7
Solar Ready-Electric Recommendation: Make facility ready for solar PV installation. South facing roof or solar shade ~27º pitch Architectural standing seam roof Conduits and space for inverter
8
Renewable Incentives: Energy Trust-BETC - Federal Recommendations: Plan to apply for applicable incentives Energy Trust-Yes Federal 30% - N/A BETC: (BETC new rules 1-1-2012) – Conservation – Yes – Renewable - No
