Introduction JCOMM Open Access GTS Pilot Project
Goal is to provide data producers a simpler method of submitting real time data to GTS infrastructure and data consumers a simpler method of access A pilot project to take well understood physical ocean data from known platform types and inject in near real-time onto the GTS for distribution globally. Retrieve these and other data from the GTS and make available through interoperable web services.

Open Access to GTS workflow
JCOMM Open Access GTS Pilot Project Workflow Data is harvested from GTS, decoded and ingested into ERDDAP services Data is encoded into BUFR and sent to GTS Data harvested from host institutions and ingested into ERDDAP server Data is available through ERDDAP services to end users and their favorite applications Data Center crawls ERDDAP services to grab near real-time data Open Access to GTS workflow

Results JCOMM Open Access GTS Pilot Project
Successfully transmitted real-time data from 18 platforms to GTS Moorings (3), Ships (8), Saildrones(5), Bottom Pressure Recorder (1) Improved workflow, in conjunction with National Data Center, simplified process of getting data onto the GTS ERDDAP data services simplified process of accessing data from GTS Illustrated issues in GTS availability of data in comparisons with Copernicus Marine Environment Monitoring service (CMEMS) Saildrone TPOS atmp Saildrone 2013 atmp Algeciras sst ACO sea water pressure E2M3A atmp Volvo Ocean Race Langosteira atmp

Next Steps JCOMM Open Access GTS Pilot Project
Still supporting GTS transmission of additional Saildrone mission MET data 12 additional Saildrones supporting Arctic, US fisheries and TPOS 2020 missions JCOMM OCG to develop an Open GTS strategy document, with assistance from community members quality assurance of data national sensitivities surrounding data distribution dealing with data duplicates others… Create BUFR template for Unmanned Surface Vehicles Identify proper GTS routing header for Saildrone data Saildrone Arctic2018 mission Saildrone TPOS 2018 mission
