Notebook Entry: Open your Windsurfer textbook to page 94. Examine the diagram and compare it to our field outside. Would you say that today the field is absorbing, reflecting or radiating the majority of the sun’s energy today? (Hint: look back at Apply It on pg 93…it may help)

3. Energy at Earth’s Surface
Absorb = occurs electromagnetic energy from light hit atoms and molecules and cause them to vibrate.
The more an object's molecules move and vibrate, the hotter it becomes.
Reflect = light energy is NOT absorbed and instead bounces off the object
Radiate = light energy is absorbed by atoms and sent back out as heat (infrared radiation)
