2 Figure 1 Speculation on possible precursors to fibrocytes recruited to injured kidneys. The study by Reich et al.8 suggests that precursors to fibrocytes exist in the bone marrow. Among others, possible precursors include mesenchymal stem cells (MSC), yolk sac–derived myeloid precursors (YSMP), and monocyte/macrophage/dendritic cell precursors (MDP).
