Issues around health: Longevity Morality Availability / government
In the last 50 years there have been dramatic changes in the health care system in our country and in the whole world. People live longer, creating new issues to deal with. There are questions of the ethics and morality of medical treatmet and procedures, and well as the question of medical rights and government involvement. How does a Christian view this new world?

A Christian takes care of their health
1Ti 5:23 No longer drink water exclusively, but use a little wine for the sake of your stomach and your frequent ailments.
Lu 5:31 And Jesus answered and said to them, "It is not those who are well who need a physician, but those who are sick.
Col 4:14 Luke, the beloved physician, sends you his greetings, and also Demas.

Then he must call for the elders of the church and they are to pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord; 15 and the prayer offered in faith will restore the one who is sick, and the Lord will raise him up, and if he has committed sins, they will be forgiven him.

WHY should a Christian be health conscious? Fear of death? Hebrews 2:15 Enjoyment of life? Isaiah 22:13
Not sinful unless these things are our purpose
Heb 2:15 and might free those who through fear of death were subject to slavery all their lives.
Isa 22:13 Instead, there is gaiety and gladness, Killing of cattle and slaughtering of sheep, Eating of meat and drinking of wine: "Let us eat and drink, for tomorrow we may die."

WHY should a Christian be health conscious? Purpose of being health conscious: Serving God – Philippians 1:21 Serving one another – Galatians 5:13
Ga 5:13 For you were called to freedom, brethren; only do not turn your freedom into an opportunity for the flesh, but through love serve one another
Php 1:21 For to me, to live is Christ and to die is gain.

Question: is it a sin to smoke, to eat fatty foods, to engage in dangerous professions or hobbies?

Exodus 29:43-44 "And there I will meet with the children of Israel, and the tabernacle shall be sanctified by My glory. So I will consecrate the tabernacle of meeting and the altar. I will also consecrate both Aaron and his sons to minister to Me as priests.”
John 10:22Now it was the Feast of Dedication in Jerusalem, and it was winter.
a. The dedication (Hebrew - Hanukkah) was to remind them of the desecration of the Temple in 167BC and the cleansing and dedication

“Whatever prayer, whatever supplication is made by anyone, or by all Your people Israel, when each one knows his own burden and his own grief, and spreads out his hands to this temple” 2 Chronicles 6:29

21. Your Body as a Temple
Purpose of a Temple: 1. A dwelling place for the Spirit 2. Confidence of prayers 3. Offering of sacrifices 1 Peter 2:5
You also, as living stones, are being built up a spiritual house, a holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ. I Peter 2:5

22. Your Body as a Temple Sin desecrates your temple
A desecrated temple does not work:
- Holy Spirit’s seal is broken – Hebrews 6:4
- Prayers are not heard – John 9:31
- Sacrifices are not accepted – Malachi 1:10
Heb 6:4 For in the case of those who have once been enlightened and have tasted of the heavenly gift and have been made partakers of the Holy Spirit, 5 and have tasted the good word of God and the powers of the age to come, 6 and then have fallen away, it is impossible to renew them again to repentance, since they again crucify to themselves the Son of God and put Him to open shame.
Mal 1:10 “…………I am not pleased with you," says the LORD of hosts, "nor will I accept an offering from you.

23. Christians & Healthcare
Purpose of the body: to serve God Healthcare: to steward of God’s instrument Sin desecrates the temple’s purposes
1 Cor 11:25 In the same way He took the cup also after supper, saying, "This cup is the new covenant in My blood; do this, as often as you drink it, in remembrance of Me." 26 For as often as you eat this bread and drink the cup, you proclaim the Lord's death until He comes.
Act 2:42 They were continually devoting themselves to the apostles' teaching and to fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer

25. Perfect Health from Christ
"And on the basis of faith in His name, it is the name of Jesus which has strengthened this man whom you see and know; and the faith which comes through Him has given him this perfect health in the presence of you all.” Acts 3:16

"Therefore repent and return, so that your sins may be wiped away, in order that times of refreshing may come from the presence of the Lord” Acts 3:19 “Repent, and each of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins; and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit” Acts 2:38
