1 Hospital Rating Systems
Ralitza Dekova, M.Sc. Hospital Rating Systems A Framework Analysis Methods What is a hospital rating system (HRS)? - Gather all HRSs from around the world that include a scientific methodology Create typology to group similar kinds of HRSs - Resultant groups analysed using a framework Method of evaluating hospitals’ performance in a given timeframe based on chosen parameters such as patient population, indicators and specified location of the hospitals. Objectives - Focus the attention of HRS consumers, notably healthcare seekers, devised by the author on important details of rankings - To create an analytical framework for HRSs Fig 1. Analytical Framework for Hospital Rating Systems Background - Hospital rating systems exist in several high- and middle-income countries - They will be emerging in other places in the near future, including in low- income settings - Information from different HRSs can be conflicting, even when analysing the same hospitals Results Conclusions - 24 HRSs analysed - 6 Types of HRSs identified - Differences explored between & within each type - Relying on one HRS is not advisable in selecting a hospital - Exploring methodology is essential in understanding the true meaning of an HRS - Consumers should take care to avoid non-scientific HRSs that are in circulation References sample: [1.] Werner, R.
