1 Moon Phases and Eclipses 3/28/15
NOTES: Copy into your notebook, next right hand page. *The Moon takes 27.3 days to orbit the Earth. The Moon also takes about 27 days to rotate. From New Moon to New Moon is about 29.5 days (one lunar month!) *A Solar Eclipse happens when the New Moon blocks out the Sun, casting a dark shadow on the Earth. *A Lunar Eclipse occurs when the Earth passes between the Sun and a Full Moon. A red-orange glow often is seen on the Moon due to the refraction of red light by our atmosphere.

2 3. OUT: Left side of notebook
Color in the Moon Phase flip book, cut out, then staple into your notebook. Draw both a Solar and Lunar Eclipse. Be sure you label where the Earth-Sun-and Moon are and also sketch where the shadow occurs. Use color and show details. *Remember: during a Solar Eclipse the shadow is on the Earth, and during a Lunar Eclipse the shadow is on the Moon.
