A Summary of the 6 Kingdoms
The Diversity of Life A Summary of the 6 Kingdoms
2
What is a cell? Basic unit of life
All living things are composed of one or more cells Some organisms are only 1 cell big Some organisms are composed of many cells
3
Cell Parts Nucleus – control center of the cell Cell Membrane
Cell Wall
4
Some Cells Don’t Have a Nucleus
5
Energy Terms Autotroph – organisms that make their own food to obtain energy Heterotroph – organisms that must ingest food to obtain energy
6
Archaebacteria Single celled No nucleus Found in extreme environments
7
Eubacteria Single celled No nucleus Found everywhere
8
Fungi Some single celled, some multicellular Have nucleus
Have cell wall Absorb food from their surroundings Break down dead and decaying organisms
9
Protists Mostly single celled, some multicellular Have nucleus
Some are plant-like, some are animal-like, some fungus-like Live in water
10
Plants Multicellular Have nucleus Have cell wall Have chloroplasts
Use sun’s energy to make food
11
Animals Multicellular Have nucleus NO cell wall Must eat to survive
12
What Kingdom Do I Belong To?
I am multicellular I have a cell wall I make my own food My seeds are enclosed in fruits
13
What Kingdom Do I Belong To?
I have only one cell I cause disease I have a nucleus
14
What Kingdom Do I Belong To?
I break down dead organisms I have a nucleus I have a cell wall I am multicellular
15
What Kingdom Do I Belong To?
I don’t have a nucleus I live in extreme places
16
What Kingdom Do I Belong To?
I must eat to survive I have a backbone My cells have nuclei
17
What Kingdom Do I Belong To?
I cause disease I don’t have a nucleus I can be helpful to humans, but can also harm them
