2 Reasons People Left Most people who left South Carolina were from rural or farming areas Unemployment People had a hard time finding jobs so they moved to larger cities to find jobs Poor sanitation in rural areas there was often no way to get rid of human waste Many people became sick because of this

3 Reasons continued No electricity No transportation
Most rural towns had no electricity Mill towns were often located near cities with electricity and attracted workers No transportation

4 Many sharecroppers left rural areas of South Carolina to go to the cities to get jobs in the factories hoping to get out of poverty. Poverty and Textile mills Sharecropping the offer of Pushed people out work pulled Of rural areas people to cities

5 African Americans Many African Americans migrated from South Carolina to the North Many left because of segregation and the separation of races Discrimination and not being treated fairly Sharecropping and the poverty that they lived in
