1 Review– Parts of a cell. What am I? 1 1

2 What am I? I am Composed of double layer of phospholipids and proteins
I Surround the outside of ALL cells I Control what enters or leaves the cell I am selectively permeable Outside of cell Inside (cytoplasm) Cell membrane Proteins Protein channel Lipid bilayer Carbohydrate chains 2 2

3 What am I? I am Found in plants, fungi, & bacteria
Cell wall I am Found in plants, fungi, & bacteria Made of cellulose in plants I am rigid and I add extra protection 3 3

4 What am I? cytoplasm I am a Jelly-like substance enclosed by cell membrane I am water based but a variety of other molecules are found in me as well. I provide a medium for chemical reactions to take place I am found in ALL CELLS 4 4

5 What am I? nucleus I Control the normal activities of the cell.
In eukaryotic cells I have a membrane to separate me from the rest of the cell and protect my contents. I Contain DNA bound to proteins, in the form of loosely coiled chromatin or tightly coiled chromosomes (depending on whether the cell is dividing or not) I have a dark area inside for making ribosomes 5 5

6 What am I? I am found inside nucleus as a dark region of tightly coiled DNA and proteins I make new ribosomes Some cells have more than one of me 6 6

7 What am I? I help the cell maintain its shape
Also help move organelles around Made of special protein called microtubules and microfilaments 7 7

8 Cytoskeleton MICROTUBULES MICROFILAMENTS 8 8

9 What am I I am known as the“Powerhouse” of the cell
I generate cellular energy (ATP) during cellular respiration There are many of me in active cells like muscle cells. Both plants & animal cells have me 9 9

10 MITOCHONDRIA 10 10

11 What am I? Photosynthesis occurs inside of me
chloroplast Photosynthesis occurs inside of me I am never found in animal or bacterial cells 11 11

12 Rough and smooth endoplasmic reticulum
What am I? I am a network of hollow membrane tubules I Connect to nuclear envelope & cell membrane I help make (Synthesis) cell products & I help transport them around the cell One form of myself (“rough”) is studded with ribosomes Another form is “smooth” (no ribosomes) Rough and smooth endoplasmic reticulum 12 12

13 What am I? I am known as “Protein factories” for cell because proteins are made here I am made of a small and a large subunit I am found in both prokaryotic and eukaryotic cells 13 13

14 Ribosomes Can be attached to Rough ER
Be free (unattached) in the cytoplasm 14 14

15 What am I? I am made of stacks of flattened sacs
I receive proteins made by the ribosomes I modify and refine proteins and Transport the modified proteins via vesicles which pinch off of me. Transport vesicle 15 15

16 Golgi Bodies Modify, sort, & package molecules from ER
Look like a stack of pancakes Modify, sort, & package molecules from ER for storage OR transport out of cell 16 16

17 Golgi Animation Materials are transported from Rough ER to Golgi to the cell membrane by VESICLES 17 17

18 What am I? lysosome I Contain digestive enzymes
Break down food, bacteria, and worn out cell parts for cells I am programmed to release my enzymes when it is time for the cell to die Known as the “kamakazi” of the cell. I am generally not found in plant cells 18 18

19 What am I? I assist with cellular reproduction (cell division)
I am made of microtubules I am not found in plant cells. centrioles 19 19

20 Which cell is prokaryotic? Which is eukaryotic?
20 20

21 Which is an animal cell. Which is a plant cell
Which is an animal cell? Which is a plant cell? Can you identify all the parts? 21 21
