BACK TO BASICS
2
In spite of all the efforts made by the states such as timely availability of textbooks and other learning material, training of teachers and teachers’ support material, regular monitoring, etc. It is a fact that many a times, teachers complete the syllabus as per the textbook but they do not have clear idea as to what kind of learning they expect from children in different curricular subjects. Teachers mainly use the textbooks to transact the text, conduct given activities and assess children based on questions given in the textbooks which would perhaps not reflect precise criteria of assessment

THE RATIONALE FOR THIS CONCEPT
THE RATIONALE FOR THIS CONCEPT *Too much of activities for the sake of activities were going on. * Basic competencies and concepts that are the building blocks of all education are not taught.
4
Basic skills in languages : Reading, spelling, pronunciation, vocabulary, speaking , writing.
5
* * In mathematics : Mental mathematics, problem solving, operations and formulae. * In EVS: Concept clarity, appreciating elements of nature, , developing a scientific temper, narrating and describing and understanding scientific terms.
6
We are not corelating or integrating the subjects.
*Associate whatever we teach to our daily life situations.
7
*Time tested techniques like recitation, dictation, dramatization, story telling, story making, mental maths, memorisation are shelved. * Always in a hurry to complete the syllabus , we do not encourage the students to use their creativity and imagination.
8
Parents too are interested in getting A
* Parents too are interested in getting A* hence they complete their child’s work, thereby not allowing the child to make mistakes and thereby denying the child the opportunity to learn from mistakes.
9
*We do not encourage the students to ask question or express their opinion or thoughts for the fear of having indiscipline in the class or we feel that we are running short of time to complete the syllabus.
10
All knowledge , skills , concepts , learnt in the school are meant to be used in the world outside where they will have to deal with a variety of situations. We need to devise learning opportunities integrating various subjects so that children are aware that all learning is to prepare them for life.

14
C - CONCENTRATE ON ONE THING AT A TIME T – TEACH OTHERS WHAT YOU HAVE LEARNT I - INTERNALISE THE LEARNT SKILLS C - CONNECT WHAT YOU LEARN WITH WHAT YOU HAVE ALREADY LEARNT E - EXCELLENCE BE PURSUED CONTINUOUSLY

Monitoring the learning outcomes at every level
*Monitoring the learning outcomes at every level. *Encouraging proactive learning . *Developing concentration ability among students.
19
Focus should be on making students independent learners who can access and understand relevant information , critically examine them and be able to apply it meaningfully in day to day situations.in brief they should have the capabilities for learning to know .
20
Activities that give learners an opportunity to create , work with their own hands, develop a sense of work ethics and dignity of labour should be incorporated in the classroomlessons.this will give the ability of learning to do.
21
Children should be provided with opportunities for attaining the skill of learning to live together

Learning events should be planned in such a way that children can learn to communicate , have a sense of self esteem and confidence ,basic values , capacity to take independent decisions, have potential for creative expression, imagination and be able to adjust with the world around them. This will enable children to learn to be

PLANNING & PREPARATION:- Read , Understand and conceptualize the Unit/ Lesson/ Chapter . Identify the TLOs for the Unit/ Lesson/ Chapter wise using the NCERT’s Learning Outcomes. Role of a Teacher
24
This has to be done in subject committee Meetings, and all parallel teachers are to have the same ELOs List them Unit/ Lesson/ Chapter wise Take the help of Back to Basic tools. Prepare the lesson plan.
25
Learner’s Achievement Test
Learner’s Achievement Test should be based on the concepts attained in the previous chapters. This LAT has items that test a child’s level of learning- remembering, understanding, applying, analysing, evaluating and creating. Attempting these tests will help our children reinforce their learning and apply it in contexts apart from the text book
26
‘Back to Basics’ enables a student to appear :- NAS (National Achievement Survey) PISA (Programme for International Student Assessment) ASER (Annual Status of Education Report) JRM (Joint Review Mission by MHRD) SLATE (Student Learning Attainment for Targeted Empowerment)
27
ASSESSMENT Prepare a Percentage report for Chapter wise LAT and make STRATEGY for slow learners. Submit a report of such slow learners to your Supervisor for further action at the end of month.
