NEWSPAPER PROJECT (100 Points) - EACH STUDENT WILL BE PLACED INTO A GROUP (3-4 students) FOR THE PURPOSE OF DIVIDING THE ASSIGNED GROUP WORK. - STUDENTS DO NOT HAVE TO WORK IN A GROUP. EACH GROUP NEED TO DIVIDE THE ASSIGNED WORK. THEY CAN WORK ON THEIR OWN NEWSPAPER OR WORK WITH SOMEONE IN THE GROUP. - EACH GROUP WILL PRESENT AND SUBMIT THEIR ASSIGNMENT ON THE DUE DATE.

The project has Four (4) parts
The project has Four (4) parts. Part 1 - Create a newspaper (individual or group) Part 2 – bring a COPY (USB MEMORY DRIVE) OF THE NEWSPAPER TO LOAD INTO THE CLASSROOM COMPUTER. Part 3 – EACH PERSON IN THE group WILL Present (summarize) THEIR newspaper ARTICLES. Part 4 - print and submit a hard copy for a grade.

SOURCES – INFORMATION can come from various sources (books, textbook, internet). Make sure to create a “Reference Page” in APA format at the end of the newspaper to cite your sources. IF YOU ARE NOT SURE HOW TO Use APA format, LOOK AT the arcega.weebly.com website for APA writing format ON REFERENCES.

Newspaper Procedure - The newspaper will be related to a specific event in history. - Each group will be assigned a time period in history. - Each student in the group will act as a newspaper reporter. (both articles will total 500 words) in essay format.

1st Article (250 words ESSAY + TWO PICTURES) – social issues (art, religion, culture) 2nd Article (250 words ESSAY+ TWO PICTURES) – political (government, laws, ) VISUALS – EACH ARTICLE MUST HAVE TWO (2) PICTURES RELATING TO THE ARTICLE. - Each reporter will need to attach their picture to personalize their article (See sample).

Oral Presentation - Each person in the group will present their individual newspaper articles for FULL CREDIT. The whole newspaper will be loaded into the computer so it could be presented to the class.

Presentation Requirements Index Cards (per person) Each student must have an index card with a summary of their articles. Presentation Time (per person) - Three (3) minutes minimum - six (6) minutes maximum

Visual (per person) -Each article must have at least two (2) pictures (picture of people, events, and places. It could also be graphs, chart, or timeline) for each article. *This means there should be four (4) total visuals for both articles.

Evaluation value (100 Points) Presentation (40 ) Points - Facts & Information = 10 -Presentation (Loud, clear, eye contact with the audience) = Format (followed all the requirements) = 10 -Time Management = 10

Submit the following items during the day of the project: - Memory drive w/the newspaper (need to load to class computer) - Hard copy of the newspaper - Index cards w/information

Audience The instructor will monitor the following: - Students paying attention. - sleeping -Talking & disrupting. - the use of cell phone or any electronic devices. * Any violation from the list above will result in disciplinary procedures and loss of points from the student’s project.

Rough draft -the rough draft of the paper will be due on February 20th (Thursday) Project due The project will be due on February 25th (Tuesday). Groups will be selected randomly so be ready. If you are not ready when called, you will get no credit.

Rough Draft It should outline of the two (2) newspaper articles. Bring the following things for the rough draft: 1. Topics (2 topics: Social & Political topics). It does not have to be a complete sentence. 2. What will be covered in the topics? (two completed sentence) 3. What will be the sub-topics (supporting details) 4. Write a graphic organizer (flow chart) to show your work. 5. References (bring the source for the article). 6. Bring the index cards for the presentation. Must show proof that work has been done on the cards to get credit for the draft. No proof of work, no credit!
