Theme Analysis Write an analysis of a theme and how that theme is conveyed through specific details. You will be writing an analysis of a theme in “The World’s Fastest Human,” but first you are going to study a model analysis of a theme in “The Southpaw.” After each pair shares, I will ask the whole group: • Does the textual evidence provided support the identified theme? (i.e., Is the evidence relevant?) If not, what other evidence might be used? • Is there enough textual evidence to support the identified theme? (i.e., Is the evidence adequate?) If not, what additional evidence might be used? • Is the evidence clearly explained? If not, what more can be said to explain how the moments convey the theme?

Short Written Analysis of a Theme in “The Southpaw.”
Read the model a second time with your elbow partner to consider the organization and style. How is the model organized? • How does the writer introduce and conclude the essay? • What do you notice about the writer’s style? Share Out

Closure Quick Write: Based on the model and our discussion, what are the characteristics of an effective written analysis of a theme?
