The BISE Objective To build a consistent and updated knowledge base for biodiversity in Europe, that will: Assist an effective uptake of this knowledge by EU, national, regional, local or sectoral decision makers and Promote a greater level of coordination among the relevant sectoral policies and among different institutional levels In support of the post 2010 policies

Conditions : BISE should
accommodate information from multiple sources, provide a unified information and knowledge service for the development of biodiversity policies, build where relevant on existing operating systems in view of enhancing content management and interoperability, and Form a partnership for its further development

BISE : A Biodiversity Clearing House for Europe
The Clearing House Mechanism in the Convention for Biological Diversity has 3 Strategic Goals To facilitate technical and scientific cooperation To promote information exchange To develop a network of partners The European Communities Clearing House Mechanism has developed into the European Biodiversity CHM network with countries (CHM Focal Points) during the past 10 years In November 2009, a vision to embrace a view of the continent’s biodiversity rather than what is happening within country borders was discussed with the network. In support of IPBES – or an IPBES for Europe??

The Biodiversity Data Center
currently contains information on species, habitats and protected sites in Europe. A coordinated entry point on the EEA web site, to link with data and map viewers of Natura 2000 sites, conservation status databases and EUNIS

The BISE v.0 Is being developed by EEA, ETC-BD in partnership with DGENV, DGJRC, EUROSTAT to be published in June are : A concept paper v.0 A prototype on the EC Clearing House portal With a governance proposal that will allow its further development
