ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS:
A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college/university A cumulative G.P.A. of 2.75 or better on the last 60 undergraduate hours Admission through the Texas State Graduate College as a degree-seeking Master’s level student. Fee is required: $40 A brief (one page) statement of purpose describing your reasons for desiring a career in teaching and a current resume Official transcripts and 3 professional reference names and contact information submitted to links provided

Other requirements for certification: 3 hours in college algebra or higher with at least a C 3 hours in critical thinking (humanities courses) with at least a C 3 hours of oral communication with at least a B 6 hours of reading (may use history or political science) with at least a C 6 hours in writing (Composition I, II) with at least a C

Other forms will need to be completed: Application to the Educator Preparation Program through the Office of Educator Preparation (fee required); A certification plan (fee required) developed by the Certification Officer, Office of Educator Preparation Criminal History Background Release Form for Round Rock ISD will need to be completed before first semester.

Three Paths to Teacher Certification Offered at RRC
Teacher Recruitment Program (TRP) Accelerated 2 semester certification program with optional Masters Degree Certification and Masters Students (CMED) Masters Degree program with certification built-in Teacher Certification Deficiency Plan (Not Seeking a Graduate Degree) Review the information on the TRP website: Attend an Information Session provided by the Office of Educator Preparation. Contact Stephanie Long, Apply to the Graduate College as a non-degree certification seeking student or as a master’s degree seeking student. If you think you might want a master’s degree, go ahead and apply as a degree seeking student. It isn’t that many more hours to have both. If you wait to declare “degree seeking, only 6 post grad hours can count towards a master’s degree.” Fees: $10.00 non-degree seeking; $40 degree seeking. Apply to the Graduate College as a degree seeking student (Fee: 40.00). The Graduate College will allow 6 hours of post grad coursework to count towards your master’s degree. Once you are accepted into the Graduate College, you will receive a degree outline. This will list the classes required for your master’s degree. It should be very similar to the certification plan, but will not have student teaching on it. Apply to the Graduate College as a non-degree-seeking certification student. (If you think you might want a master’s degree, go ahead and apply as a degree seeking student. It isn’t that many more hours to have both. ($75.00 fee) Contact: If your application is accepted, you will be contacted for an interview. If you are selected for the TRP, you will attend a TRP Orientation session prior to registration. Begin taking classes. You must take classes in the sequence specified at TRP orientation. You will be able to complete the certification portion of TRP in 2 long semesters. If you wish to continue on for a master’s degree you will have 5 years to complete from the time you were accepted into the graduate college. Begin taking classes. If you want to be certified before finishing your degree, take courses listed on the certification plan first, then finish the classes that remain on your degree outline after becoming certified. All certification plan classes must be completed prior to student teaching. Any background classes listed on the plan (i.e., College Algebra, etc.) must be completed before student teaching.
