Bandwagon Everyone is doing it

testimonial Quotations or endorsements which connect a famous or respectable person with a product or item

Snob appeal Aims to flatter Suggests that this product/idea is better than others or “ahead of the times”

Plain folks Makes leaders or product look like “regular” people (“mom and pop style”) Opposite of Snob Appeal

Name calling Links a person, idea, or product to a negative symbol

transfer Using images to bring up strong feelings or emotions in order to persuade

Loaded words Uses “loaded” words – emotionally charged words, like “new” or “improved” or “best”

Glittering (or sweeping) generalizations
Makes an oversimplified statement about a group or product based on limited information

Red herring Attempt to distract the reader with details not relevant to the argument
