Tattoos are one of the most ultimate forms of self-expression. Imagine. Willfully enduring piercing needles just to bear an image upon your skin. The reasons why people get tattoos are as numerous as the amount of existing designs. I have encountered many curious inquiries as to what my personal tattoos mean. True, I'm not absolutely required to share every little detail of myself with the general public. But I find that talking about these things opens a space for discussion and community through connecting and sharing. One of the tattoos I bear includes the 12 ; 02 on my right wrist. It had been a concept in my mind for a long while. However at first, I had absolutely no idea what the numbers would be. After years of waiting, the day had finally come by surprise. December 2nd. My first injection of testosterone. Yes, being visible means being vulnerable. But how can I claim safety while cowering in the shadows? Creating a space to be safe entails danger. Creating a noise that some don't want to hear might have repercussions. But I need to feel safe. I need to be safe. I'm going to learn, I'm going to listen, I'm going to speak, I'm going to fight. I'm going to step outside of the shadows.
