History Year 8 Homework Menu : Spring Term
Each half term, you are required to complete two pieces of homework. You will be given four deadlines across the whole Spring Term. You may choose which of the three tasks per half term you complete for each homework. By the end of each half term, you would have completed two of the three homework tasks on each row below. Literacy Task Creative Task Research Task SPRING 1 Write a set of diary entries from the perspective of a Lord who rebelled against King John. The entries should equal at least one page of A4. For example, you could write about King John in his early years, and then jump to the signing of the Magna Carta. Design a portrait of King John. The imagery in the ‘painting’ needs to show your opinion of John’s leadership. Use objects and images to represent things you know/think of him as king. Add labels that describe the details in the portrait. Find out the Spanish Armada. Why did the Spanish attack? What did the Spanish plan to do? What happened during the attack? Why did the English win? Summarise your research into a flow chart, timeline or storyboard. Deadline: Done: SPRING 2 Write a poem or song about Elizabeth I’s reign. Focus on summarising her positive qualities and successes. The lyrics could be a parody of an existing song, or be a funny song Horrible Histories might use. Design a portrait of Oliver Cromwell. The imagery in the ‘painting’ needs to show your opinion of John’s leadership. Use objects and images to represent things you know/think of him as king. Find a video or the text of three of Winston Churchill’s famous speeches. Record the name of the speech, and answer these questions: When did Churchill make the speech? What does he say to his audience? What makes this speech effective?
