Born-19 Jan 1809 in Boston, Massachusetts to David Poe, Jr., and Elizabeth Arnold, traveling actors who already had one son. Poe’s father abandoned them in New York. Two years later, his mother had his sister; the mother became ill with fever then died in Richmond, Virginia, on 8 December 1811. Poe became an orphan at the age of three. He was separated from his siblings and given to a childless couple in Richmond, VA.

Poe had his first education at boarding schools, he was lonely and unhappy during those years.  The tobacco business went downhill in At school, Poe showed a gift for languages and began writing. Poe began college at the University of Virginia. He fell for a younger girl but her father did not want them together because of Poe’s money problems ($2,000)

The two men began to drift. Allen wrote to EA saying that he wanted "no further communication with yourself on my part.”

Poe traveled to New York and published Poems by Edgar A. Poe. It was known for themes of death and the afterlife, topics most writers avoided. Then, he moved to Baltimore to live with his aunt and nine year old cousin. He was hired to write for a magazine, more dark stories. This job did not last long. They eventually moved to New York. John Allan died on 27 March 1834, nothing was left to EA.

6 On 22 September, Poe and his 13 year old cousin Virginia married
On 22 September, Poe and his 13 year old cousin Virginia married. He brought them to Richmond, VA, supporting them both. They moved to New York. He wrote a lot but did not have a stable job. Poe became known for being a tough critic. His greatest piece was "The Raven“, reprinted at least ten times within a month after its appearance. His wife was very sick off and on for a while. Poe started drinking more and more. His life grew more depressing from there.
