History 1930’s 62 acres donated by Archie and Samuel Stewart. Land transferred to US Govt. U.S. Military Academy at West Point built first airfield for cadet aviation training. 1970 Acquired by NY State, operated by DOT. 1980 Runway 9-27 expanded, accommodating any large aircraft worldwide 1990 American Airlines offered first commercial flights 2000 New York Stewart International Airport first privatized U.S. airport 2007 Port Authority purchased remaining 93 year operating lease.
