Compare/contrast essays
Prompts will always be written as “Analyze the similarities and differences between…” Your thesis statement should argue that they’re more similar or more different (if you’re arguing they’re more similar, X will be a difference they share) You will still have a paragraph over differences

Compare/contrast essays
For example: Thesis statement They’re different in this way. However, here are two ways in which they are similar. Therefore, they’re more similar Paragraph 1 differences Paragraph 2 similarities

CONTINUITY AND CHANGE OVER TIME (CCOT)
Another wonderful essay you will have to write for the AP test. It’s my favorite. You will be asked to analyze the continuities and changes over time of certain PERSIAN categories in a certain civilization

CONTINUITY AND CHANGE OVER TIME (CCOT)
For example: Analyze political and religious continuities and changes over time in the Roman Empire from 27 BCE – 150 CE.
8
CONTINUITY AND CHANGE OVER TIME (CCOT)
How to tackle this guy: Look at the Roman Empire in 27 BCE and list out what you know about its politics and religion. Look at the Roman Empire in 150 CE and list out what you know about its politics and religion. What has changed? What has stayed the same? WHY DID THOSE CHANGES/CONTINUITIES HAPPEN? Analysis is key here.
9
CONTINUITY AND CHANGE OVER TIME (CCOT)
You will be arguing that things changed more or stayed the same more. Your thesis statement, for example: Political power in the Roman Empire was still concentrated in the hands of the emperor throughout the Classical Period. However, with the introduction of Christianity, religious views changed drastically as people turned away from worshipping Roman gods and goddesses. Therefore, the Roman Empire changed more from the time period of 27 BCE – 150 CE.
10
CONTINUITY AND CHANGE OVER TIME (CCOT)
