1 My Student First Classroom
Saskatchewan Provincial Leadership Team

2 What is My Student First Classroom?

3 Background…... The My Student First Classroom model consists of action items for students, teachers, schools and school divisions. Together we share the responsibility, to ensure that all students: are prepared to learn, belong and are valued and are successful as they prepare for their future. As part of the work on this priority, the Graduation Rates Leadership Team was tasked with examining the current research and local promising practices. Based on the research and promising practices shared at the 2016 symposium, the team has developed the “My Student First Classroom” model. This will be implemented in Fall 2017, with an initial focus on grade 10.

8 We belong and are valued
Example(s) as to what it would sound like and/or look like: Teacher: Teachers provide students the opportunity to do better. They look at individual solutions as opposed to doing the same thing for all the students. Student: I view my teacher as someone who is like my coach. They want me to do better and I want to be the best I can be. I take the steps to relearn.

10 We are successful as we prepare for our future
Example(s) as to what it would sound like and/or look like: Teacher: Students are given student summary sheets indicating their grade after each unit or each month (whatever is shorter). Learning Targets are provided at the beginning of each unit and are visually and verbally referred to in the lesson. Student: I follow through on my goals to do better by taking the steps to relearn content so I have a better foundation.
