2. Factor by Grouping - Example 1
Grouping the terms together that can have something “factored out”
x2 + 2x + xy + 2y
so we will group these together
x2 + 2x + xy + 2y what can we factor out?
x y
Now what do we have left if we factor those out?

3. Now what can be “factored out”
EXAMPLE 1 (cont.)
x2 + 2x + xy + 2y
x (x + 2) + y (x + 2)
Now what can be “factored out”
Same “factor” in both parts so…
“factor it out”

4) x3 – 5x2 + 9x - 45
