1
Using an Epsilon trap…. Call that a cow! Who are they kidding?
2
Pick a clear area.
3
Cut back the vegetation
4
and clear the ground where the trap will be.
5
Unpack the trap...
6
You need ropes, pegs and poles...
7
cages to retain the flies...
8
and a few simple tools such as a hammer.
9
The trap uses three types of pole.
10
The three long poles are placed at each corner.
11
The pole with a flat end is placed at the back.
12
Look for a small sleeve at the trap entrance...
13
…and insert the shortest pole into this sleeve.
14
Insert the pole all the way into the sleeve.
15
Pass the ropes through the loops at each corner.
16
Make a note of the wind direction and...
17
...orientate the trap so the entrance is downwind
18
Hammer the pegs into the ground and...
19
...attach the ropes to the pegs.
20
Try and avoid leaving gaps like this on the left.
21
You now need to attach the cage.
22
Take the funnel and attach it to the netting.
23
Fit the top of the cage to the funnel.
24
And then attach a plastic bag to the cage.
25
The attachment to the netting should be like this...
26
…not with big gaps or...
27
..even small gaps though which flies will escape.
28
And not with large amounts of thick string which deter flies from entering the cage.
29
Once assembled, the trap looks like this.
30
Bait the trap with attractants.
31
Place traps in an open site...
32
..not under a shady tree or bush..
33
..and make sure that the trap is not floppy.
34
After using the trap, remove the small central pole and fold the trap flat...
35
Place the poles, ropes and pegs on the trap, ...
36
roll the trap up..
37
and finally tie it up with one of the ropes.
38
So its ready to use next time.
