New for 2019 HNC Police studies (2 years, Level 7)
Open to new S5 pupils who wish to gain an understanding of the issues that are relevant to a policing environment, as well as developing their understanding of the skills and capabilities required to operate in policing. knowledge and skill can be applied in a number of different environments, including: the Armed Forces; Fire Service; Prison Service; Private Custodial. Services; Private Security Firms; Social Services; Leisure; Youth or Community work and Voluntary work. Entry requirement – Applicants should be studying at least 1 Higher (English) in S5. 20 places will be available, applicants will be interviewed.

Foundation Apprenticeships
What are they? A two year course giving you the opportunity to learn at school and College whilst also gaining valuable work experience with an industry employer. Pupils must have an interest in developing greater awareness of the industry. You will attend college 2 afternoons per week (Tuesday/Thursday) alongside an employer led work placement, usually over the holiday’s

Why consider a Foundation Apprenticeship?
Working at SCQF Level 6 (Higher Level equivalent) you will receive an industry recognised qualification and will be ready for employment, a modern apprenticeship or further study. Typically SDS highlight a Foundation Apprenticeship is worth between UCAS tariff points depending on the volume of learning and the units within each individual framework Note - An Higher English is worth 33 UCAS tariff points whilst an A @ Advanced Higher Maths is worth 56 UCAS tariff points

Entry requirements for a Foundation Apprenticeship
Varies for each Foundation Apprenticeship (Please check specifics on schools section of the College website) however the general rule of thumb is that pupils applying should have achieved or be working towards N5 English and N5 Maths

How to apply Start by firstly Selecting the school/college option on your course choice form Applications for SCP courses will be completed on-line and are open now. Closing date for applications is the 22nd April 2019. Your Guidance teacher will support you with you application as you will have to provide a personal statement in support of your application. If you meet the course entry requirements then you are likely to be accepted onto your chosen course. Some of the more popular courses and the Foundation Apprenticeship courses are likely to interview applicants. Note - SCP courses start at 1.45pm on a Tuesday and Thursday. Please be aware a later start time will mean a later finish to enable pupils to complete their course. Travel expenses i.e. bus fares will only be available to qualifying pupils. Please discuss with your Guidance teacher before applying.
