1 Chapter 9: Algebra: Patterns and Graphing
MAFS.5.MD.2.2; MAFS.5.G.1.1; MAFS.5.OA.2.3

2 Vocabulary interval the fixed distance between any two consecutive numbers on the scale of a graph Ex: Pattern of the graph is by 5’s or 2’s line graph a graph that uses line segments to show how data changes over time ordered pair the pair of numbers used to locate points on a grid Ex: (5,2) origin the point where the x-axis and the y-axis intersect; (0, 0) scale a series of numbers placed at fixed distances on the graph that help label it Ex: the graph begins at 0 and ends at 60 x-axis the horizontal number line on a coordinate plane x-coordinate the first number in an ordered pair, which tells the distance to move right or left from (0, 0) y-axis the vertical number line on a coordinate plane y-coordinate the second number in an ordered pair, which tells the distance to move up or down from (0, 0)

3 Lesson 9.1 Line Plots Line Plot - a graph that shows frequency of data along a number line. It is best to use a line plot when comparing fewer than 25 numbers. It is a quick, simple way to organize data. Ex. Plot the information on the line plot.

4 Lesson 9.1 Create Your Own Line Plot
1. 2.

5 Lesson 9.2 Ordered Pairs You name coordinates by using:
1. Plot A (3,5) 2. Plot B (0,8) 3. Plot C (9,0)

6 9.2 Ordered Pairs cont’d Point Z is 4 units away from the origin on the x‐axis. What could be the coordinates of point Z? 2. Point M is 5 units away from the origin along the x‐axis, and 6 units away along the y‐axis. What could be the coordinates of point M?

7 9.2 Cont’d 3.

8 Lesson 9.5 Numerical Patterns
Ex: Find the pattern and fill in the table: 2.

9 Lesson 9.6 Extend and Compare Patterns
2.

10 Lesson 9.7 Graph and Analyze Relationships
2.

11 Chapter 9 Review for Test
1. Point S is located at (8,8). Point T is located 2 units below S. Plot Point S and Point T. 2. The location of the Boosterthon Pep Rally is show on the coordinate plane. Mrs. Daniels’ left her classroom, went 3 units down and 3 units left, and arrived at the Pep Rally. Where is Mrs. Ransom’s classroom? 3. How many recipes called for 2 cups of milk? _____ 4. Pep Rally
