3
ETHICS MATTER. MAKE THE RIGHT CHOICE. STAYRIGHT Focus on 3
4
PROBLEM When travellers book hotels, they generally only know about its prices, rooms, and customer reviews; guests remain unaware of unethical practices. SOLUTION Given hotels at similar prices, we found that guests tended to choose the more ethical one. Our app uses ethical evaluations to change guest’s hotel choice. Focus on 3 This is our value proposition

AGENDA Heuristic Evaluation Results Revised Interface Designs
Implementation Status & Demo Plans for the Future Summary Focus on 3
6
HE RESULTS
7
VIOLATIONS (SEV 3 & 4) H2 (Match Before System & Real World)
H3 (User Control and Freedom) H4 (Consistency) H7 (Flexibility and Efficiency of Use) H8 (Minimalist Design) H10 (Documentation) Focus on severity 3-4 issues
8
HE THEME #1 Data visualizations and documentation were weak.
We needed to improve how we helped our users interpret: Wage data Which hotel to stay at when comparing StayRight scores and how they’re calculated How to earn points towards rewards Focus on severity 3-4 issues
9
HE THEME #2 Users could only perform key actions from certain screens.
We needed to accommodate different usage patterns. Focus on severity 3-4 issues
10
VIOLATIONS NOT ADDRESSED
Two violations of H4: Consistency & Standards we don’t address: Knowledge of one’s workplace and other workplaces is the real treasure. We ended up removing this screen altogether. We will not increase incentives for employees. There was no need to remove the extraneous back button on the Maps tab. Focus on severity 3-4 issues

REVISED INTERFACE DESIGNS
a. Major Design Changes - Present the 3 biggest changes between your low-fi sketches (from last week) and the new sketches of your updated interface that you started in studio. Show the before and after sketches and explain your rationale for making those changes. b. Medium-Fi Prototype Task Flows - Present your 3 tasks as a series of storyboards of task flows (annotated screenshots from your medium-fi prototype, arrows between screens, etc.)
12
TOP 3 DESIGN CHANGES Showed users a clear winner when comparing hotels
Added a logout option (in the profile page) for travelers and hotel staff Developed in-all documentation Focus on 3

DESIGN CHANGE #1 Showed users a clear winner when comparing hotels
Speaker provides rationale
14
DESIGN CHANGE #2 Added a logout option in the profile page for hotel staff and travelers
15
DESIGN CHANGE #3 Developed documentation for: How to earn points
StayRight Score Wages

IMPLEMENTATION STATUS

TOOLS USED Figma Invision Adobe Color Wheel Xcode GitHub
18
IMPLEMENTED FEATURES Task #1 Earn points and rewards from your stays
19
IMPLEMENTED FEATURES Task #1 Wizard of Oz Techniques
Earn points and rewards from your stays Wizard of Oz Techniques Shiatsu Massage already unlocked Rewards preset to be available for unlocking
20
IMPLEMENTED FEATURES Task #1 Hard-Coded Data
Earn points and rewards from your stays Hard-Coded Data Traveler has somehow accumulated 30 points upon opening the app Traveller earns +5 points for each stay at an undefined hotel Traveller somehow spends a static amount of money on hotels, with a static breakdown of spending categories
21
FUTURE FEATURES Task #2 Task #3 Find and compare ethical hotels
Find better employers
22
PLAN Revise the med-fi screens that serve these features
Breaking down implementations into smaller coding sub-tasks, using Asana Ensure code quality by creating branches for each coding sub-task, checking in code frequently, & reviewing pull requests before merging Use rigorous testing

24
PLANNED WoZ TECHNIQUES
Preset account information for the hotel staff user: Works at Hotel Astoria as a housekeeper, since 2015 Hourly wage is $7.51 More pre-populated workplace reviews with fake text Existing reviews and data from hotel employees are spontaneously existent
25
PLANNED HARD-CODED DATA
Each hotel’s StayRight score is predefined The traveler can only search, select, and compare preset hotels Opportunities at other hotel workplaces
26
ISSUES / QUESTIONS How can we verify that the hotel employee actually works at the workplace they’ve reviewed? How will users react to our implementation of rewards?
27
SUMMARY Information is the reason why people use our app. Our value hinges on honesty and understandability! We need to show travelers why ethics matter and reward them for supporting hoteliers’ good practices -- and we need to make it easy to do so.

HE Results: Severity 4 Issues
H3. User Control and Freedom Allow users to switch between traveler & hotel staff modes Focus on severity 3-4 issues
30
HE Results: Severity 3 Issues
H3. User Control and Freedom Unclear which hotel a traveler should stay at based on the comparison. Need to display a clear winner H8. Aesthetic and Minimalist Design Difficult to understand visualizations of wage data in hotel staff view H10. Help and Documentation Unclear how to earn points as a traveler, which hurts motivation Focus on severity 3-4 issues
31
HE Results: Severity 3 Issues, cont.
H2. Match Between System and Real World It’s unclear what a StayRight score and its components mean and how they’re calculated H7. Flexibility and Efficiency of Use Split Your Hotel and Other Hotels into separate pages for hotel staff H4. Consistency and Standards Include booking option directly on a single hotel page, not just when the traveler compares it to another hotel Focus on severity 3-4 issues
