Action films like Tomb Raider showed that women could handle tough situations as well as men. In TV programmes like Buffy featured strong women heroines who could fight as well as men. One of the most popular sitcoms of the 1990s Absolutely Fabulous showed this idea of women being responsible for their own destiny and being able to do many of the traditional things that men did, not needing men to give meaning to their lives!
